Slow Country presents an intricate confluence of styles- the work of two distinct songwriters filtered through the comforting glow of an expansive big band sound. Boyd Shropshire's (played with Kurt Vile / Human Television) unresolved, spacey rock with Mascis-style vocals blends seamlessly with Chase King's earnest, off-kilter pop and country-influenced songs. Slow Country is bathed in fender rhodes, lap-steel guitar and plenty of spring reverb. It's all delivered with commanding vocals and careful musicianship focused on the details.
Slow Country's debut record, The Late Great Slow Country, spins folky psychedelia into hummable rock. It is a beautiful, cold-weathered-listen that retreats to a simpler time.
