BIOGRAPHY
Originally known as Three Month Sunset and centred around the solo workings of Gabriel Lewis, the band cautiously awoke in 2006.
2007 saw Gabriel win www.ainr.com's Artist In Residency competition judged by Sigur Rós, Flood and Alan Moulder. Renamed Lowtide, the band's sound evolved from a single ambient, soaring, textured guitar into the band's current, larger configuration.
Lewis' guitar remains collectively transmitted by way of several amplifiers but is now framed by Lucy Buckeridge, Anton Jakovljevic (The Morning After Girls) and Giles Simon (The Sun Blindness). This addition of drums, dual bass and female/male vocals further emphasise the original dynamics, but also widen the aural spectrum.
In 2010, the band released an EP (You Are My Good Light) to a sold out crowd at Cherry Bar in Melbourne and played shows with the likes of A Place To Bury Strangers, Steve Kilbey (The Church) & Ricky Maymi (Brian Jonestown Massacre). 2011 saw Lowtide travel to New Zealand, where they were invited to play two sets at the Campus a Low Hum Festival, sharing the stage with the likes of Caribou, My Disco and Toro Y Moi, as well as playing at Applecore Backyard Festival. After releasing their two-track single ‘Underneath Tonight’ on Departed Sounds and a brief live hiatus, Lowtide have recently been sharing stages with Royal Baths (NYC), Beaches, New War, Aleks and the Ramps and Montero.
